How do I check if my iOS device supports eSIM?
Last updated: 2026-09-03
Quick answer
Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data). If you see an option to add an eSIM or add a cellular plan, your iPhone or iPad supports eSIM. If that option is missing entirely, the device does not support it or your carrier has restricted it.
Steps
- Open Settings > Cellular, or Settings > Mobile Data depending on your region.
- Look for Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan.
- Check your exact model in Settings > General > About, then confirm it on /help/device-compatibility.
- In the same About screen, check Carrier Lock. It should read No SIM restrictions.
What to check
- eSIM support on iPhone starts with iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR, and is present on later models. Not every iPad has cellular hardware at all.
- iPhone models sold in mainland China do not include eSIM support.
- If Carrier Lock shows a restriction, the phone is locked to an operator and cannot use our packages until they unlock it.
Important
Seeing the Add eSIM option confirms the hardware, not that your operator permits third-party profiles. If the option is there but installation fails, see why am I seeing the Unable to Activate eSIM error.
