What can I do if my device is network or carrier-locked?

Last updated: 2026-09-03

Quick answer

A phone locked to an operator will not accept a third-party eSIM. Only the operator that locked it can unlock it - eSiMAZE cannot. Check the lock status before buying a package.

How to check

  • iPhone and iPad: Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock. It should read No SIM restrictions.
  • Android: the wording varies; look under Settings > About phone or Settings > Connections for SIM lock or network lock status. If in doubt, ask your operator.

How to get it unlocked

  1. Contact the operator the phone was bought from and request an unlock.
  2. Expect conditions such as the contract or instalment plan being fully paid.
  3. Follow their instructions exactly. Some unlocks complete over the air, others need a code or a specific restart.
  4. Re-check the lock status before installing your eSIM.

Important

Do not install an eSIM onto a locked device hoping it will work. The code is normally single-use, so a failed installation can consume it. Confirm the phone is unlocked first - or install on a different unlocked device that supports eSIM.
