When can I use my eSIM?

Quick answer

You can use the eSIM as soon as it is installed, the line is switched on, it is selected for mobile data, and it has registered on a supported network at your destination. Installation and activation are separate steps - installing alone does not put you online.

How activation timing works

Packages carry one of two policies, and your package details say which one you have:

• Starts on first connection. The validity period begins when the line first registers on a supported network at your destination. You can install ahead of time without losing days.
• Starts on installation. The validity period begins as soon as the profile is installed, whether or not you have travelled yet.

What to do on arrival

1. Turn on the eSIM line in your device settings.
2. Select it as the line for mobile data.
3. Apply the data roaming setting your package specifies. Some packages require roaming to be on for the eSIM line; others do not.
4. Give the phone a minute to find a network, and toggle Airplane Mode briefly if nothing appears.

Important

Use the supported networks and any APN value listed with your own package. These differ between packages, so a setting that worked on a previous trip may not apply to this one.
